FINDING stylish country clothing in the heart of Cheltenham just became a great deal easier with the opening of a new shop geared up to all things outdoors.

Cotswold Country first opened in Cirencester seven years ago and offers a fresh perspective on traditional country fashion.

The existing business was taken over by Peter and Sally Tupper in 2002 and they started with a small gun room, a pair of wellies and a very memorable bag of goat feed.

Eight years later the business has grown to become the largest collection of country clothing and footwear in the area.

Cotswold Country specialises in top country wear brands such as Dubarry, Schoffel, Liberty Freedom, RM Williams, Celtic Sheepskin, Beretta, Harkila and Holland Cooper.

It also sells accessories including faux-fur headbands and tweed flat caps.

The new store in Regent Street has been open for a couple of weeks and is geared up for winter with a selection of Gore-Tex footwear and warm coats.

Manager Maxine Tupper, who is Peter and Sally’s daughter, says: “We felt Cheltenham would be the perfect location for our next store because it’s in the heart of the Cotswolds and there is an appreciation of good quality clothing.

“Cheltenham lacked a country shop with a modern twist.

“It is also perfect for all the race-lovers out there who want to stand out from the crowd.”

The sister shop in Cirencester has a large gun room as well as a country clothing range.

In Cheltenham there is a select range of shooting leather accessories but everything else shooting-related will be held in Cirencester.

“In Cheltenham we want to focus on the stylish element of country clothing and footwear,” explains Maxine.

“We deliver an exceptional shopping experience by offering a one-on-one service, strong product knowledge and determination to get it right for our customers.

“Our aim is to become a destination shop that brings people to Regent Street.”

The family-run firm spends a lot of time looking for new and innovative items, travelling to Spain, Italy and Germany as well as stocking several UK made brands.

“It’s a real treat visiting the factories and understanding how these garments are made,” says Maxine.

“Our customers expect and deserve a high quality finish with great attention to detail, so we’re constantly searching for this.”

Cotswold Country is open from 10am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

This weekend Maxine is looking forward to welcoming racegoers.

“We’re hoping for lots of new visitors, especially as we are open all day on Sunday,” she says.
